July 30th 50 Lap Race Report
Heat race win, followed by leading 47 laps out of 50 on the way to the big
win sounds easy! Well far from it!!!
After breaking the tranny the previous race while leading, I was very aware
that it isn’t over till the checkered flag flies.
The preps for this race started late, as I was at Loudon for the Modified
race from Friday AM until the rain delayed feature on Saturday eve. Monday
night was a late run to get my first Tranny from Buzzy’s Transmissions in
Springfield MA. Tuesday Jimmy and I installed the new tranny. Jon and
Jimmy were at the shop on Wednesday to help finish up.
Warm ups were rush / rush as Jon, Wayne, and Jimmy helped to solve several
issues (lead moving, tire swaps, driveshaft caused vibration etc.). In the
heat we won, but something as wrong under the hood, (driver getting
nervous). Jon found the culprit, a plug wire partially off the plug
causing the miss.
The 50 lapper--- we would streak to the lead early but many cautions would
give plenty of chances to the Ernie Larose? Driven 41, Keith DeSantis, then
Danny Cates, then Kevin Mason. Best battle was when Kevin Mason pulled
even on a late restart and we raced side by side for several laps. (Kevin
is in the lone ford that has big power advantage but tough chassis to dial
in). It also isn’t easy to drive 47 laps in the lead with all my fingers
and toes crossed hoping nothing would go wrong with the car! A late
caution would have us restart single file with 5 to go. As I led, a last
lap tangle between Cates and Mason would shuffle the top 5 order.
Scott Sundeen and Jesse Gleason would run into trouble shuffling the season
points. Glenn Boss would move into second place with 9 races remaining in
the season.
Possibly see some of you at Seekonk for the Tour Mod show (maybe). The
rest of you…see you next week. Hello to special fan Amanda and to new fan
Paul.
Cheers
Larry-A big thanks has to go out to Buzzy from Buzzy's Transmissions for building us a replacement "Trick" tranny helping us take home the win of our 50 Lap Feature. With the quality work that went into this transmission I don't see us having to change it for the rest of the year. Our wonderful Pettit Power also helped us keep the lead for an astonishing 47 of 50 laps. This has to be one of the biggest wins for our team and I have to thank the rest of the crew last night Jimmy and Wayne and definitely Larry for his great driving. Good Job Guys Lets keep up the good work!
