September 22nd Race Report

Heat race win. Feature win #6 of season.

Preps for this race began just hours after the Thompson 300 checkers waved.
I towed the car home, unloaded the truck. Jimmy and Jon pulled the engine out again as I headed back to Thompson to get the camper. By around midnight the camper was unhooked in the driveway, and the engine was loaded into the truck ready to head back to New Milford.
Monday night our gremlin showed up on the engine dyno right at 5600 rpm.
Power dropped like a brick
Wednesday the 14th I returned home with the engine. Jimmy and Jon once again assisted on the engine install. We have too much practice at this!

Rain would cancel racing on the 15th. This would give us time to swap the entire drivetrain.

Practice would only last 1 lap on the 22nd before I pulled off the track due to a vibration. Jimmy, Jon, and Ron were up for the challenge, with parts ready to go right back to our old drivetrain set-up. We would win our heat race again.

The feature:
A lap 1 incident would almost end our night. Ken Bamford was trying to come back from an infield excursion and got into us pretty good. We lost several positions but were able to continue. After about 30 minutes of yellow flag fever…. We found ourselves in 2nd chasing the 19x for the lead.
Another caution would place us on the outside of Keith DeSanctis on the restart. Sweet! We would get the lead 2 laps later with an outside lane pass!
An advantage in the corners, and Pettit Steam down the straights, would carry us to win #6 of the season.
